Big thanks to the awesome Brazilian friends from my hostel in Prague who gave me a hand full Hungarian forint coins. Lets not repeat what happened in Prague.
There is a machine right by the buses to buy a bus ticket (below photo). I had enough coins. Hurray.
One problem came up. I could not find my bus #78! There were dozens of buses, even a bus #178. I sat on the stairs of the train station. (photo below)
I managed to hook myself up on some wifi. I kept getting glances from the taxi drivers… No I wont be needing your service.
How awesome is Google maps, I typed where I was and where I needed to go. Clicked the bus route and it showed exactly where the bus #78 was. About a five-minute walk.
I got on the bus and even heard a few Québécois.
I missed my stop and asked a kind Hungarian guy where I could find HBC Hostel. He went on his phone and showed me exactly where it was.
Walked about 10 minutes.
I buzzed in and I arrived.
Day 1
The owner provided me with a map of the city and highlighted what I should do that day. I unpacked my belongings, Skyped with my mom and got ready for the exciting day in Budapest.
First thing first, I had to eat. The owner of the Hostel, Anton told me where to go, but you know me! I got lost and found some random place and just ate there.

After a while of walking around, the weather turned around and started to get cold. I found myself at a cool second-hand store and bought a black cardigan (that I wore endlessly throughout the other countries and my mom kept complaining. Hey, it worked well with all my outfits and it only cost 3,990 HUF)
I looked out the window and it was raining. I managed to asked the lady where I can buy an umbrella.
If you must know where you can buy one, go underground.

The rain thankfully stopped and I continued my day walking around the city. Anton mentioned a street with lots of stores and restaurants called Váci utca/Vaci Street.
It took me a stupid amount of time to find it. Since the street is only for pedestrians.

Food time. I was walking around, trying to find a place to sit and eat. Found a restaurant and the only reason I choose the one I did was because I saw two girls eating (yay to being a solo traveller).
I sat down, finished my main meal. As I was waiting for a dessert, a girl sat near my table. I was debating what to do, so I turned around told her I just finished eating what she ordered and asked ‘Are you a solo traveller?’
Indeed she was! She was in Amsterdam for a few weeks for work and selected to see Budapest for the last five days in Europe.
That day, we agreed to do a pub crawl later in the evening. We met at the meeting spot, only to find out it was just the of us two. The pub crawl leader was very kind, instead of completely cancelling the ‘pub crawl’ she used her own time to show us her favourite ruin bar.
My first time at a ruin bar. We arrived at one of the ruin bars with a big whale painting, Kuplung. The pub crawl leader had to leave after a couple of hours of chatting. Restaurant friend, lets call her Violet. Violet and I befriended some local Hungarians and they mentioned a DJ will be playing a set around 1 AM at a nearby club.
We arrived at a place called, Kolor.
We were there for probably, 45 minutes, listening to DJ Vadim.
Day 2

Free Walking Day Tour. Violet and I met up and joined a three-hour walking city tour. You see and learn a lot of things! I highly recommend it!
More ruin bars later that evening. After a couple of hours at Instant we went out to explore another ruin bar.

We befriend more travellers. Can not remember whether it was at Instant or on the street. One of the Americans with us, saw some dude walking with a New York Rangers hat. We befriend that guy and later in the night we had learned that he belong to a Hungarian band called, The Poster Boy.
What ruin bar we ended up in, no a clue but it was cool looking. Pretty sure I talked to the owner of the ruin bar. He was an American, I think with some Hungarian background?!
After 3 AM, time to walk back to my hostel.
Day 3
Day of relaxing. I bought my ticket for the spa at the hostel (yay, discount price). Violet and I decided to walk to the spa.

After spending roughly six hours relaxing at the spa we decided to take the subway back into the city. With our luck, the ticket machine was broken.

FOOD
After a long day, we went back to our separate hostels.
I arrived to my hostel probably just before midnight and found out I had a roommate. YAY.
We started to chat, I asked questions left right and center. I learned she had not gone to a ruin bar yet. After an exhausting day, I told her to get ready and I am taking her to one near by, Instant.
Day 4
Violet wanted to see the House of Terror Museum, so I joined her. Yay to having the ISIC card. Regular price was 2000 HUF and I only paid 1000 HUF 🙂

What’s next? McDonald’s! So fancy!
What’s next? Margaret Island

What’s next? Gellert Hill
Definitely climb to the Gellert Hill. When going up after business hours, bring a water bottle. We made that mistake.
What’s next? Food…
Lets no talk about it. Horrible customer service, found hair in my food.
What’s next? Drinks

DAY 5
I was picked up by my brother-in-law. He drove all the way from Croatia to get me in Budapest.
