Lost in Bruges

Here I was in Bruges, seeing what Colin Farrell would have seen when filming Lost in Bruges.

I glanced at the time and saw that I only had 60 minutes to get back to the train station. I had my trusty map but I learned it was not so trusty. With so many small streets and lack of detail on the map…

It was now my turn,  I was lost in Bruges.

I arrived in Bruges after my journey from Antwerp. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and I instantly regretted my decision to wear jeans.

I grabbed a free map at the train station and made my way towards the city.

As I was walking around the city all alone, I came across a local and asked if she could take a picture of me on a bridge. We began to chat and I asked what I should see in Bruges. She mentioned a house I should see and she took me to it. (photo above)

From what I can remember she said; that the house is old, there is layer of gold on the outside of the house (you might be able to see on the photo), many want to view inside of the home but the owner does not allow it and the owner lives in the house two months out of the year.

We said our goodbyes and I continued walking.

The photo above is the Vismarkt (Fish Market). When I was there I did not see any fish but I did buy a new summer scarf. I have to say I did not even wear it once. tsk tsk

The sun was slowly setting and I had to go back to the train station. I had about 60 minutes to make my journey, giving myself enough time. I soon realized I was lost.

With so many small streets and the map lacked detail; I had to find some locals to help me.

After wandering around for a bit, I asked two local teens on their bicycles which direction I should headed in. With the language barrier I manage to  get an answer and we went on our separate ways.

About 15 minutes went by and I was nowhere near a train station let alone another pedestrian on the street. Slightly panicking, I continued to walk and found myself near a busy road.

Gracefully I saw a lady walking, I quickly approached her (not like a crazy person) and said ‘How do I get to the train station!?!’

She had no clue what I was saying! Not because of the language barrier but due to the fact that she was deaf. I quickly pulled out my map, pointed to the train station. She understood what I needed and grab me by my arm and guided me the train station.

HURRAY

I thanked her and quickly went to find my boarding platform.

The End.
